Welcoming Our New Assistant for Children, Youth, & Families, Lee Walsh

by the Rev. Hershey Mallette Stephens and Lee Walsh

Hello St. John’s,

It is with great joy that Sari and I introduce to some, and re-introduce to most of you, Lee Walsh! Lee has agreed to come on board as the ministry assistant for our growing Children, Youth, & Families ministry. Lee, her husband, and their three boys have been members of the St. John’s community for many years. Her primary work will be supporting the Church School program and teachers. She will join Scott Bradley, our Youth Leader, and me in creating new and exciting opportunities for children, youth, and families to worship, grow and build community here at St. John’s Norwood. Please join me in welcoming Lee!

Dear St. John’s,

It is my pleasure to be taking on the role of Assistant for the Children, Youth, & Families ministry because it is a natural extension of my professional life. The majority of my work week is spent serving as the Director of Chevy Chase United Methodist Church Preschool where I support children (and their families) as they grow and learn as well as the teachers who tend to them. It will be a delight to have the same focus at St. John’s.

When not at work, I love reading, watching movies, playing Spider Solitaire (so addictive), baking, weightlifting (to counteract the eating that follows the baking), and spending time with friends, family and our menagerie of three cats and a dog.

My family and I joined St John’s after an intensive bout of church shopping following our move here in 2010. You’ve probably seen my husband, Dave, and our son, Owen (17), ushering. Our other two sons, Cotton (21) and Clay (13), have served as acolytes. All three sons have been active in the youth group and have grown through their experiences at Camp Joy and on the pilgrimage (Clay looks forward to his in 2 years). This is my opportunity to give back to the church community that has done and continues to do so much for me and my family. I look forward to serving St. John’s children, youth and families as I assist Hershey in her work.

Sincerely,

Lee Walsh
