Dear St. John’s,
Please join me in welcoming Alex Duncan, our newest staff member. Alex will be serving as our Office and Communications Assistant, and I am delighted for you to meet her. As a first introduction, please see Alex’s letter to the congregation below. I hope you will join me in giving her a warm St. John’s welcome!
Grace and Peace,
Hello St. John’s!
My name is Alex Duncan and I am thrilled to be taking the baton from Alexandra Kennedy as she steps down from the Office and Communications Assistant position to pursue her doctorate in English at UVA. I am from South Carolina and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelors in Biology and Spanish in May. In June I married the love of my life and this month we moved to DC to pursue work opportunities for him. Moving to DC has been a big change from South Carolina, but every day has been a new adventure to learn and explore. Already the staff and parishioners at St. John’s have helped make me feel welcome and at home here!
Outside of St. John’s, I teach courses in SASS Women’s Self-Defense. I love working with girls and women of all ages to help them uncover their power and learn to use their hands, feet, and voices to keep themselves safe. Watching them grow in confidence fuels me with a passion like no other! Over the next several years here, I’m also hoping to pursue a Master’s program in trauma counseling with a focus on working with people who have suffered from relationship violence.
I am so thankful for the opportunity to join you all here at St. John’s! Please feel free to stop by the Parish Office during the week to introduce yourself. I’m excited to get to know you and really become a part of the community here!
