Sonya Sutton

Interim Director of Music Ministries

As Interim Director of Music Ministries, Sonya serves as our organist and pianist, leads three vocal choirs of all ages and a hand bell choir, works with volunteers on the Christmas pageant and youth musicals, and coordinates our concert series.

She is a magna cum laude graduate of Westminster Choir College and holds a master of music degree in organ performance from Manhattan School of Music, where she was awarded the Bronson Regan Award for outstanding accomplishment in organ performance.

Sonya has served as Music Director at several Episcopal Churches, including most recently at St. Alban’s in Washington, D.C., where she led professional and volunteer musicians in five ensembles, wrote a weekly blog on music and faith, and founded a performing arts series, Arts@Midday, which attracted audiences with its innovative programming.

Sonya received her education at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, earning Bachelor and Master Degrees in Piano Performance, and a second Masters in Arts Administration. She is married to the Episcopal Bishop of Maryland, the Rt. Rev. Eugene Sutton and they have four children in their blended family.
