St. John's Neighborhood

Montgomery County Planning Officials are approaching a watershed in their ongoing effort to revise the 20-year plan for development in downtown Bethesda. On May 21, they expect to release the first draft of the new Bethesda Downtown Plan. The Plan and our neighbors’ related, renewed interest in redeveloping the properties next door will have important implications – potential risks and potential benefits – for St. John’s.

St. John’s Development for Community Committee (DCC) has been charged by the Vestry to oversee St. John’s effort to manage this opportunity and advance St. John’s interests. We ask that parishioners click here and read carefully the Communication to the Parish from the DCC. This document explains the status of the process, the issues we face and our plans to seek input and feedback from the Parish as we craft our response.

There will be many uncertainties for months to come, but we are confident that with the support of an informed Parish, we will make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to support St. John’s Vision of even greater engagement in our community.
