We are delighted that at its meeting on Tuesday, September 19, St. John’s Vestry unanimously approved St. John’s Refugee Ministry’s proposal that we sponsor a refugee family for one year, working through the Lutheran Social Services Good Neighbor program.
This decision followed a year of work and faithful discernment about what St. John’s next steps should be in this ministry. This included working with LSS and an ever-growing group of volunteers to equip four apartments for refugees, consultations with other faith communities which have sponsored families, participating in an information session with LSS on what is required to sponsor, discussion and a survey of those involved with the Ministry about their level of continued commitment and a lot of prayer.
With this wonderful decision, St. John’s is taking another important step towards fulfilling God’s command to love our neighbors as ourselves. More information will soon follow about how we will move forward on this decision. There will be a broad variety of opportunities to get involved with varying time commitments – there is certainly a place for you!

Thank you, St. John’s!
